Sharpie’s New Marketing Campaign

July 28, 2011Posts by Courtney Gardnerby

The new Sharpie back to school campaign, “Start with Sharpie” is focused on the company’s passionate young fans and the wonderful works of art they’ve created using a Sharpie product. Sharpie even redesigned their website to embrace the overall excitement and to reach the young creative audience.

The campaign highlights four amazing artists that use Sharpie products in their everyday lives. Below are the four artists with their print ads and their webisodes:

Mark Rivard – Skateboard artist; customizes and designs skateboard art.

Erica Domesek – DIY Expert; turns pencil cases into purses.

Cheeming Boey – Coffee Cup Artist; turns paper coffee cups into works of art.

Marirose Weldon – Singer/Songwriter; uses Sharpie pencil to write lyrics.

All four of the ads are wonderful works of art and display each individual’s talent. Now it’s your turn to participate!  The greatest part of the campaign is that Sharpie fans can submit their own art creations. On August 27th, Sharpie creations will take over YouTube’s homepage with an interactive mosaic of consumer-generated artwork, which will illustrate, what New York Times calls, the ultimate expression of “what fans have started with Sharpie.” Every piece of artwork submitted, will be used on YouTube’s homepage.

    Meghan,
You should create your own art creation then for the campaign! :)

How do they get the sharpie to draw so well on hard surfaces? I always have trouble getting the marker to work for very long on a hard surface such as the bottom of a skateboard.
